One of downtown's newest hotels will open in early 2017
One of Portland's newest hotels will open its doors above one of the city's oldest restaurants in early 2017.
The Hi-Lo Hotel, from Marriott International's Autograph Collection of boutique hotels, has been a work in progress in the historic Oregon Pioneer Building at 320 S.W. Stark St. since BPR Properties bought the building in January 2014 for $4.95 million. The building is also home to Huber's, the renowned Portland restaurant that first opened its doors under another name in 1879.
While Huber's has remained open and plans to continue operating as normal, the Hi-Lo will also have its own restaurant, Alto-Bajo, which will feature classic Mexican cuisine from Michelin-starred chef Chip Barnes.
The Hi-Lo plans to open in the first quarter of the new year, though a specific date has not yet been set.
The hotel will offer up 120 rooms and target "locals, young professionals and business travelers," according to a release, which also states that "the notion of mixing the High and the Low are imbued into everything the hotel does."
